Book talks for elementary schools are 45 minutes long. The author talks about how she came up with the ideas for her stories, how she created and named her characters, and then takes students through her writing process and shows them how a book is made.
Discount/School or Organization Fund Raising:
The Adventures of Everyday Geniuses is available at a discount and can be personalized with an autograph in conjunction with a school visit. The preferred method for purchasing books, and the only way to guarantee students have an autographed book the day of the author’s visit, is to prepay and order the books through the author at least three weeks prior to the visit. (Schools may choose to order books following an author visit, which is fine.) Schools sponsoring a book talk determine the resale price of the discounted books. Sales tax is included except: If books are resold at a profit, then the school or sponsoring group is responsible for reporting and paying the 6% Maryland sales tax. Only those books purchased for school use qualify for tax exemption. In those cases, schools must provide a tax identification number. Schools collect the money, with checks made out to the school or sponsoring organization, and forward a single check to the author along with a copy of the School’s Final Order Form. Student Order Forms with instructions on how to sign the books should be forwarded to the author with payment for the books. The author will fold the Student Order Form and insert inside the book cover of each signed book so it is delivered to the right student.
2011-12 AUTHOR VISIT & SPEAKING FEES
$225 is the fee for each presentation, up to one hour per presentation. Book signing may extend beyond that hour at no additional charge. $450 for half-day (2 presentations, up to an hour each.) $675 in-state (Maryland) for 3/4 of a day (3presentations)and $900 for full-day (4 presentations), plus expenses over 50 miles for any of the above. Because of drive time, in-state visits beyond 75 miles will be considered at LEAST 3/4 day, ($675), even if fewer than 3 presentations are needed (and, of course, the usual $900 if 4 presentations are requested). Lodging needs vary, depending on distance and presentation schedule. Outside of Maryland or Delaware: $1100 per day (up 4 presentations per day) plus travel & lodging expenses.
